Yesterday EA DICE confirmed that the game Mirror’s Edge will now be officially releasing for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on November 11th in the United States and on November 14th in Europe. The developer also has spoken of plans to develop two sequels to the game, making it into a trilogy (never saw that coming). EA has continued to build up the hype for this game, trying to make it into a big deal by not only releasing a gameplay demo, but also releasing a special “Time Trial” mode for the demo for preordering customers as well as selling a $130.00 collector’s edition version of the game. If you have yet to play this demo, it’s worth a try, and it’s pretty original, I’ll give it that.
As for EA’s actions regarding trying to build up the hype… Meh… I don’t really think that Mirror’s Edge has a big fanbase, if any fanbase at all, and fans are usually the guys who will actually go out and drop the extra $70.00 on the collector’s edition. Regardless, it looks like a pretty good game that’ll be deserving of at least a rental, but I doubt very seriously that I’ll go out and purchase it, especially with games like Left 4 Dead coming out. The only way to experience the gameplay firsthand is through the demo, and, if you’ve played that and have enjoyed it and you’re planning on buying it anyways, I’d say go for it. Collector’s edition is optional. It’ll hit stores here in the US on November 11th, the standard edition retailing, as always, at $60.00.
